3,500 Local Hospital Workers Vote to Strike

About 3,500 members of the Service Employees International Union Healthcare Minnesota voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to strike.  After two days of voting, 91 percent supported the strike option.

If the union calls a 2-5 day strike it would affect:

-Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina
-Fairview Riverside Hospital in Minneapolis

Valleyfair Prepares for Opening Day May 12

A national ride inspector will be out at Valleyfair April 30-May 2 checking out all the rides and making sure they are safe for operation before opening day May 12.  Park officials are also conducting test runs on all the rides.

Hazelden to Open Clinic in Chaska For Adults, Adolescents

Kids as young as 12 will have a place to go to get treatment for addiction. Hazelden plans to open a new outpatient clinic in Chaska.

It will provide chemical and mental health services to adults and teens.

Hazelden says they've seen an increase in demand. The center will open for adults in March and for adolescents in April.

Agreement Signed for ECM Publishers to Buy Minnesota Sun Newspapers

A media company based in Coon Rapids has officially agreed to buy Minnesota Sun Newspapers from American Community Newspapers II.

The agreement for ECM Publishers was signed Friday, Dec. 30. The newly acquired newspaper group will be called ECM-Sun Group LLC.

Chanhassen City Council Say No to New Walmart Store

People who fought to keep a new Walmart out of Chanhassen got their wish.

The City Council unanimously voted Monday night to deny Walmart.

The proposal was to build a new store at Highway 5 and Powers Boulevard. Several residents were opposed to the store aying it would shut down neighborhood businesses.

Minn. Landscape Arboretum Kicks Off 'Making Spirits Bright'

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is making spirits bright.

The Making Spirits Bright holiday extravaganza features 12 storybook-themed Christmas trees,where kids can listen to stories. Organizers say it's a great way for families to make memories and start a tradition.

Buck Hill Open For The Season

Did the weekend snow get you in the mood for winter? Buck Hill Ski Area is hoping so.

They opened for the season Monday. They plan to be open Monday through Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Lift tickets those three days will cost $15 for all ages. 

They will be closed Thanksgiving, but will reopen Friday with a full day of skiing from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
