Waconia School District Holds Day of Service to Honor MLK Jr. Day | News
Title
In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, most Minnesota schools were closed. But one school district, held class and devoted it to the meaning of this day.
Most of the 3,500 students in the Waconia School District went to school, where a day of service and special lectures focused on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Students at Clearwater Middle School packed lunches for local homelessness relief organization "363," made bowls which were sold to benefit school children in Somalia, and created blankets for refugees living in the Twin Cities. Similar events took place across the Waconia School District, which serves students in St. Bonificus, New Germany and Cologne.
The Eastern Carver County School District, which serves Chanhassen, Chaska, Victoria and Carver, held class today. However District Communications Assistant Laurie Kendall would not say whether there were special tributes to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during school.
