MnDOT Names Recipients of 'Safe Routes to School' Grants

Students traveling to Minnesota schools are about to be a little bit safer thanks to the Safe Routes to School grants. The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced the 92 recipients of $768,000 in federal funding Wednesday.
 

Educators Honored During National Teacher Day

Today is National Teacher Day – a chance to recognize the importance of educators and thank the teachers who have made a difference in our lives.

Thousands of community members will be taking time today to honor Minnesota educators for their role in making sure every student receives a quality education.

Minnesota Teacher of the Year to be Announced Sunday

Education Minnesota will be naming the new Minnesota Teacher of the Year this Sunday, May 6, at an annual banquet.

The announcement will come from Katy Smith, the current Minnesota Teacher of the Year. The banquet is at 1 p.m. at the Northland Inn in Brooklyn Park.

Academy of Holy Angels Trimester II Honor Roll

Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield recently released their honor roll list for Trimester II.

The school says students who maintain a 4.000 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.000 scale are named Scholars of Distinction; Students with a 3.6667 or above earn High Honors and students who maintain a GPA of 3.2000 receive Honors.

34 Semifinalists Named for 2012 Teacher of the Year

Education Minnesota has announced the 34 teachers who are semi-finalists to be the 2012 Minnesota Teacher of the Year.

This year marks the program’s 48th year. The winner will be announced Sunday, May 6, at the Northland Inn in Brooklyn  Park and will be chosen by a 22-member panel of community leaders.

136 Minn. Schools Honored for Improving Reading Scores

Minnesota schools that improved student reading scores are being honored by the Minnesota Center for Reading Research next week.

The center is recognizing 136 K-12 schools that made adequate yearly progress in reading for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years after failing the standards the previous year.
